—The Zanzibar leopard (Panther pardus adersi) is an extinct population of African leopard that lived on Unguja Island in the Zanzibar archipelago, Tanzania. It was the island's largest terrestrial carnivore and apex predator. The Zanzibar leopard went extinct due to persecution by local hunters and loss of habitat. The last accepted sighting of the leopard was in the 1980s.
